The Studio by Christopher John Rogers

New York fashion designer Christopher John Rogers is revered for fearless colour and expressive print. His debut collection for The Rug Company celebrates the hand of the maker, throwing open the doors to his creative process. Six styles in ten colourways, each shaped by many hands, and many skills.

“I’ve always been interested in developing work that feels considered but not overly perfect, and in leaving evidence of the hand behind. I want these pieces to become tools for self-articulation—to live with people, be used, and help them build a world that feels distinctly their own.”

— CHRISTOPHER JOHN ROGERS

The Hand of the Maker

From Rogers’ studio to our mills, a conversation unfolds. Handpicked fibres, hand-dyed in dozens of hues, are handknotted, flatwoven or worked in braided soumak, each technique drawing out the design’s soul. Finished by hand, every rug keeps his spontaneity within the discipline of the craft.

Play, Instinct & Experimentation

In Rogers’ studio, ideas take shape in marker and brush, drawn, redrawn and left to wander. Happy accidents are welcome: the scribble of a first idea in Marker Test, the sweep of a loaded brush in Paintstroke, the tailor’s chalk of Chalk Line. Imperfection, in his words, “in the pursuit of beauty”.
