Designer Spotlight: Ghislaine Viñas
Dutch-born and New York-based, Ghislaine Viñas began her design career in 1999 with the opening of her very own studio and has since cascaded her unique and colourful vision into projects across the world.
Viñas' zany perspective translates into rug form with the creation of Shongololo. Inspired by the shape and movement of the millipede for which its namesake is taken, our in-house studio worked alongside Viñas to bring her playful vision to life. Completely customisable, the rug can be easily adapted in colour to inject character into any interior.
“The Shongololo rug was inspired by large millipedes found in South Africa, where I grew up. As a child, I found these creatures so endearing and fascinating. I loved giving the Shongololo a little tap just to watch them roll up into a coil - a mechanism for selfprotection. My design mimics the millipede in both its crawling and curled-up forms.”

Despite the playful inspiration, the rug’s rounded forms are very sophisticated. The pattern extends beyond a traditional rectangular shape, activating the unique outline. Shongololo is available in various colour options in contrasting colours and monochromatic schemes, allowing it to work in many different environments. The rug is also available in varying pile heights, enhancing the natural forms of the design.
